Do You Have the Right Ingredients for Growth?

REVEAL tells us the beliefs and experiences most catalytic in helping people move to the next stage of maturity, Growing in Christ, are:

  • Understanding the Trinity
  • Salvation by grace
  • Authority of the Bible
  • Experience Bible reading
  • Prayer to confess sin
  • Reflection on Scripture

Just like a bread recipe, the pillar ingredients don’t really change. But you can get creative to make raisin bread, French bread, rye bread, wheat bread … all according to your taste or to suit the occasion.

I would suggest the same for spiritual growth.

If we know these are the six most catalytic things for the growth of someone Exploring in Christ, it feels necessary to ask ourselves how the people under our care are learning and experiencing these things.

To check this out further, below is an exercise you can walk through. This will reach beyond the weekly gathering and helping you begin thinking about your small groups, classes, Bible studies, etc. Where do people learn about the most catalytic beliefs and practices that will help them grow?

I encourage you to at least take a peek at this exercise and see what happens.

1. Walk through this assessment to gain perspective.

2. Invite God into the process about what you discover.

3. Talk with your team about how you’re being intentional about providing what people need along the different stages of growth.
