Ed Stetzer: DNC Cheering for Abortion is "Disturbing"

In his blog this week, LifeWay Research president and missiologist Ed Stetzer was “deeply disturbed” by the focus and fanfare the Democratic National Convention gave to the issue of abortion. “I understand that they were cheering, in their minds, the ‘choice,'” wrote Stetzer, “but the choice is…to end a life. I think a stadium full of people cheering it is tragic.”

Stetzer reminded readers about former president Bill Clinton’s stance on abortion—that it should be “safe, legal, and rare.” “Now the DNC cheers its mention—dozens of times—and never mentions the ‘rare.’ Perhaps the cheering points shows us that the ‘rare’ part was just a talking point from another era.”

Stetzer said it’s certainly no secret that he is pro-life and acknowledged those that disagree with his stance on abortion. “Whatever your views on abortion,” he concluded his post, “and whether you’re Republican or Democrat, cheering is not the right response.”
