Rob Bell to Teach at Mars Hill as New Book Launches

Former teaching pastor of Mars Hill Bible Church Rob Bell will return this weekend to the pulpit of the church he founded. Bell will teach the congregation a message in a seven-part Lenten series on the seven deadly sins. He is in Grandville, Michigan promoting his new book, What We Talk About When We Talk About God  and will take the place of teaching pastor Kent Dobson for that day.

Bell told The Christian Post last year that his last book, Love Wins: A Book About Heaven, Hell, and the Fate of Every Person Who Ever Lived compelled more than 3,000 people to leave Mars Hill. A New Yorker article on Bell’s departure said the book “put pressure on the people around Bell, who found themselves having to defend statements they might never have heard, let alone approved.” Bell’s wife Kristen said the cost of the book was “we couldn’t keep doing what we were doing at Mars Hill.”

Bell’s new book, according to publisher HarperCollins, “does for God what he did for heaven and hell in Love Wins. He shows how traditional ideas have grown stale and dysfunctional and reveals a new path for how to return vitality and vibrancy to how we understand God.”

Bell and his family currently reside in Los Angeles where he is working on a television program and is holding workshops.
