Jack Hayford's Grandson Home Safe After Kidnapping in Mexico

Kyle Bauer, a grandson of pastor and radio personality Jack Hayford, was kidnapped and held for ransom this past weekend during a mission in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. According to a story in The Christian Post, it was unclear exactly how Bauer was taken hostage, but the FBI, the U.S. Consulate and Mexican officials were all involved in facilitating his release within 48 hours of his capture. When it was clear Bauer was missing, his missionary team immediately contacted their home church, The Church on the Way in Santa Clarita, which has set protocols for such events.

Bauer, a Foursquare minister, was not harmed during his ordeal and said he prayed for and preached to his captors; one of the captors actually asked Bauer if it was possible for God to forgive him. Officials have not given details of Bauer’s release, but Foursquare Church president Glenn Burris Jr. said, “The prayer support that permeated (the situation) is a testimony to the miraculous outcome of this story.”

The Foursquare Church is a movement of 67,000 churches throughout 140 countries. Bauer and his wife Teresa were planning to open a local church in Puerto Vallarta this fall. Jack Hayford served as the denomination’s president from 2004 through 2009.
