In the wake of Pastor Rick Warren’s son Matthew’s tragic death, Saddleback Church has set up a fund for the benefit of those struggling with mental illnesses. Called the Matthew Warren Fund for Mental Health, this giving opportunity is available on the Saddleback Church website.
Warren said that the family will hold a small private service for Matthew, saying no local building would be large enough to hold an open service. USA Today said although many encouraging notes and wishes have been delivered to the Warrens, social media has not been entirely kind to him, using the opportunity to criticize his stance on same-sex marriage and his preaching style.
Warren has described his son as a “kind, gentle and compassionate man” with a “brilliant intellect” who was sensitive to the needs of others.
