Ajith Fernando is no stranger to marriage. He and his wife have been married for forty years. He has also been a student of love.
In seminary, a professor and mentor told Fernando, “If the wife is not happy, the children will know that she’s not happy because daddy is in the ministry, and so they end up getting upset with God.”
Fernando explains, 1 Corinthians 14:1 tells us to “make love your aim.” If a man is trying to make love his aim, and if his wife is the most important person in his life, it stands to reason that one of his great ambitions in life should be to love his wife. In other words, “doing whatever we can to help them—to be a blessing to them.”
Because there is more at stake than the relationship between you and your wife (which is no insignificant thing by itself), husbands, make every effort to love your wives.
