Kids Are the Most Important Ministry in the Church…Here's 5 Reasons Why

While there are lots of important things that happen in the church, I’m a firm believer that kids are the most important ministry in the church. Here are five reasons why:

1. You get to share the gospel with the most fertile of hearts. The Barna Group reports that the probability of five- to twelve-year-old children accepting Christ as Savior is 32 percent. That number drops to 4 percent between the ages of thirteen and eighteen. It creeps up slightly to 6 percent for adults. If you want to reach the largest hidden mission field in the world, look down!

Lilly Conforti is the Children’s Ministries Director at the Full Gospel Church in Island Park, New York. When she heard these statistics, Lilly said, “It gives me an added reason to keep on preparing lessons, loving kids, and pouring God’s Word into little lives. Jesus saw the value in kids! I am blessed to serve the children in our congregation.”

2. You get to impact the worldview of children. A worldview is the way a person sees the world and answers the big questions of life. Barna research shows that “a person’s worldview is primarily shaped and is firmly in place by the time someone reaches the age of thirteen.”

3. You get to partner with parents, the greatest influencers in the home. Parents are ultimately responsible for the spiritual development of their children, and you can champion them in this great cause.

4. You get to be loved. In the heart of every person is a desire to be loved by someone. In children’s ministry, you can be loved by a bunch of little someones! In Toy Story 2, Buzz Lightyear said to Woody, “Somewhere in that pad of stuffing is a toy who taught me that life’s only worth living if you’re being loved by a kid.” How true is that?

5. You get to serve in a ministry that’s just plain fun! Seriously, you don’t have to wear a choir robe or police teenagers in the hallway. You get to play games, sing exciting songs, help the Bible come to life for kids while building lifelong relationships—and that’s just the beginning!

Those are my five reasons. What would you add to the list?
