Children Led Christmas Service: Pull It Off With Just One Practice

Plus, all kids participate in our Christmas message.

Kids Choice Practice

From 11-12, we break out into the parts that feature a few kids or just one. A few kids serve on the worship team. And a few run our crowd game. During the message, a few children read Scripture passages. A few pray throughout the service. And one child reads a benediction at the end.

Lunch

From 12-12:30, we have lunch, usually pizza. During that time, we hang out, have fun and take a break.

Dress Rehearsal

From 12:30-2, we run through the whole children led Christmas service a couple of times. This is when we sharpen everything.

Kids have an opportunity to get a feel for the service flow. It also helps us make sure the timing is good. That way, we don’t go too long or short.

Sunday Takeover

On Sunday, we take over the adult services. Our first service is 9:30, so we ask kids to arrive at 8:30. Then about 8:45, we do one last run-through.

At 9:15, some leaders take a group of kids to be part of the greeting team. At this point we also choose a small group of kids to help collect the offering. Finally at 9:30, we take over!

I’d love to hear some creative, outside-the-norm ways you pull off a children led Christmas service. Share your suggestions in the comments below!
