What KidMin Leaders Do

As a Children’s Pastor / Director, have you ever been asked something along the lines of:

What, exactly, do you do?

I sure have!  Sometimes it’s phrased a little differently, such as “What do you do during the week?” or “It must be great to hang out with the kids on Sunday…what else do you get paid for?”

We certainly know that leading in Children’s Ministry is a LOT more than hanging out with the kids (although I have to admit that’s one of my favorite parts of the job!).  And yes, we DO have to make sure the preschool class has crayons and the Nursery smells good, and that little Johnny isn’t terrorizing other kids.  But we all know that what we really do is lead. In fact, I would venture to say that KidMin, as one of the most complex ministries in the church, requires perhaps as much leadership ability as any other position except senior leadership (senior or executive pastor).

So what, exactly, should we as Children’s Ministry leaders, be doing?  Over the next few weeks I’ll offer some ideas to answer that question in the form of several posts.

First, however, let me ask you what you would say if you were asked: What do KidMin leaders do?
