What KidMin Leaders Do: Cast Vision (2)

We’ve been sharing some ideas on what KidMin leaders do (see earlier posts here).  We’ll talk about a lot of different “do’s” of the Children’s Pastor / Director, and in most cases we’ll talk about these duties over the course of several posts.

I believe that the first important duty (not necessarily the most important, but the first important) of the KidMin leader is to cast vision for children’s ministry.  We defined vision as “A clear mental picture of what could be, fueled by the conviction that it should be.”

With that in mind as we talk about vision, the first obvious question is: do you even have a vision for your ministry? To answer that question, ask yourself these questions:

  • when you arrive on Sunday morning, do you have a very clear understanding of what should take place to accomplish what you hope to accomplish?
  • when you meet a potential volunteer, can you articulate the “clear mental picture” easily & enthusiastically?
  • have you structured (or in the process of structuring) your program, team development and other aspects of your ministry to accomplish your vision?
  • do your burn with conviction that your “clear mental picture”…”should be”?
  • is your vision aligned with the overall vision of your church / senior leadership? (We’ll talk more about this in future posts.)

So . . . do you have a vision for your Children’s Ministry?
