What makes Disney so magical if you’re an employee? You! You as the employee make it magical. Disney cannot accomplish what they do without the people that make it special. Now, I’m not blind to the fact that I’ve had some bad service instances at Disneyland. Not every employee is whistling while they work. However, many are doing a phenomenal job. One of the things that impress me the most about Disney employees is the pride they take at working for Disney. I know a few people who have worked for Disney and they enjoyed it and talk highly of their experience.
It makes me think of how we should act outside of the four walls of the church. Are we representing our church and ministry as we should? It reminds me of a story when I lived in Las Vegas. I was far from our church swimming with my kids at a Rec Center. At one point I had emerged from underwater to get my kids (I was the shark) when from behind me I heard, “Pastor Justyn!! Pastor Justyn!!” I turned around and there was a little boy from church who recognized me. Admittedly, the whole reason we went to this specific rec center was that we didn’t want to run into any church people—we wanted some time away. However, right when I heard that I began replaying my entire day in my mind making sure I had not done anything embarrassing toward myself or my church.
Why was that my first thought? I know I represent my church whether I’m there or not. Kids and parents think of me differently than my family and I want to make sure they still respect me and receive from me when I’m ministering. It’s not that I’m a different person outside of the church, it’s that I should always strive to be the best I can be no matter the place. I should never lower my standards because I’m not at church. I represent Christ wherever I’m at. If nothing else, that pool scenario was a great reminder to me that not only could there be people watching me who know me, but Christ is always watching!! And, who is Christ’s representative—YOU!!
