Assimilating Volunteers: A Four Step Process

Successfully assimilating volunteers into your ministry is critical, but often done poorly.  This results in volunteers being unprepared, uncertain and uncommitted. And sometimes our lack of an efficient process results in losing the volunteer altogether.

Losing potential volunteers cannot be an acceptable option for us.  With that in mind, here’s a four-step process for leading potential volunteers through an effective and efficient assimilation process:

  • Identify – finding your potential volunteers

  • Inform – sharing the vision & information necessary for them to make an informed decision about serving.

  • Investigate – screening volunteers and finding a great fit for them in your ministry.

  • Involve – preparing them for the role you are asking them to fill and getting them started in the role.

Each of theses steps is important.  Each has several parts to them.  We’ll take a look at each one in depth in future posts.  If you don’t already have an effective assimilation process in place, you can take this framework and tweak it to your own environment to successfully assimilate new volunteers into your children’s ministry.
