4 Methods for Memory Bible Verses for Preschoolers

Bible verses for preschoolers

The preschool years are such a unique and significant window of time to focus on Bible verses for preschoolers. Preschoolers are learning at a faster rate than they will at any other time in their life. They are in the mode to memorize and master information. That’s why we ALWAYS repeat, repeat, repeat!

One of the greatest uses of our time is teaching our preschoolers God’s Word – memorizing Scripture…hiding it in their hearts. Teaching Bible verses for preschoolers is so important. There are so many ways to do this effectively with little kids.

Here are a few ideas for teaching Bible verses for preschoolers:

1. Put a verse to a song. Music is such a powerful and engaging way to learn. When my kids were little and learning their address I put it to a song. Ten years and two moves later, we ALL still remember that address and sing it whenever we say it.

2. Attach motions to the verse. When learning “Be strong and courageous” your kids should be flexing big muscles! When kids engage their bodies and put big movements to the words of a verse, it helps it to stick in their brain. And it makes it more fun! Preschool kids LOVE drama!

3. Play a game. Make repeating and memorizing fun. Pass a bean bag around a circle as you say every word. Let kids jump up on their word and then sit back down. Let them say it really fast…or really slow. Let them hop while they shout it.

4. Connect words to symbols. This can be tougher for some verses. If you are teaching them that God made the world and everything in it, maybe have a big arrow that you point up when you say “God” and a big world that you swoop slowly across the front of the stage as you draw out the “everything in it” part of the verse.

Most of the verses that I know today, I learned when I was a young child. They come back to me often. They have guided my life, comforted me, convicted me, and lead me. I am so grateful for my parents and the many volunteers who taught me God’s Word!

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. Psalm 119:105
