Francis Chan shares about the Holy Spirit’s uncanny ability to speak through a preacher in the following video. Chan brings to mind Jesus’ words in John 14:26: “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”

Chan speaks of sensing the Holy Spirit as he’s preaching. Sometimes, he says, he feels the Spirit’s presence so strongly that he is overwhelmed by the sense that “Jesus, this is what you made me for! I sense you here with me.” It’s a feeling that makes Chan want to cry.

While we do experience the Holy Spirit in our personal devotion times, Chan says “I really believe there’s a sweet communion I have with the Spirit when I’m preaching that I don’t get when I’m alone.” Further, experiencing the Holy Spirit’s power and presence while teaching causes growth in Chan. “I am closer to the Lord the more I teach, the more I preach.”

Chan goes on to explain a disheartening difference he sees in the way we draw people into our churches here in America versus other nations.

Chan encourages ministers to follow Paul’s example in 1 Corinthians 2:2 and how that translates to relying on the Holy Spirit to show up when we preach.
