If you’ve ever been in a church (anywhere from the U.S. to the far reaches of the Pacific and everywhere in between), chances are pretty good you’ve heard the song “How Great Is Our God.” Regardless of language, the melody is unmistakable to most believers in Christ.
The song was written by Christ Tomlin, Jesse Reeves and Ed Cash and was released in 2004. Since that time, it has made it around the world and back again.
The following version of the song features people singing in a couple handfuls of languages and includes footage from places all over the world. The combination of the imagery and the lyrics definitely pulls at the heartstrings. It’s no wonder the video has over 11 million views.
The video is so powerful because it might very well give us a preview of heaven: All the nations coming together, worshipping God in our given languages and cultural expressions.
“After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, ‘Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!'” (Revelation 7:9-10)
