This Is Why Some People Have a ‘Beef’ With Chick-fil-A

The pushback against Chick-fil-A’s partnership with the Salvation Army is slightly more tenuous. The Salvation Army has been criticized in the past for allegedly turning transgender people away from its shelters and discriminating against employees in same-sex marriages. However, the organization insists it welcomes and helps all people regardless of sexual orientation.

Chick-fil-A partners with the Salvation Army to give kids access to sports camps and also on its Angel Tree Program, which provides underprivileged kids with toys during the holidays.

Chick-fil-A Cares More About Its Impact Than the Culture Wars

Kurlander says the company had a discussion a couple of years ago, specifically about their partnership with FCA. She says they realized they were probably “going to get dinged” because of the partnership, but concluded the backlash was worth it due to the impact the camps would have on kids.

Bullard agrees it’s all about impact. “At the end of the day, the impact—that’s really what’s important for us. We don’t want our intent and our work to be encumbered by someone else’s politics or cultural war.”

Despite all the pushback and the ongoing boycott, Chick-fil-A is doing two things on a grand scale: Selling chicken sandwiches and giving money away. And, some would argue, they are doing the Lord’s work.
