Mike Pence Cites Impact of Faith on His Politics – Including Decision to Certify 2020 Election Results

“While it would happen a few years after he left office, Ronald Reagan essentially set into motion an American posture that ended the Cold War. We won it, and the Soviet Union is on the ash heap of history,” Pence said.

Pence then likened Reagan’s calling out of the Soviet Union as the “evil empire” to the Trump administration’s ability to “change the national consensus on China.”

Another questioner asked Pence why he chose to certify the 2020 presidential election results, despite his belief that voter fraud may have been a factor in the election.

The student asked, “On the night of the fifth or the morning of the sixth, someone in the White House convinced you that it would destroy your hopes of becoming president if you sent it back to the states. My question is, what is the name of the person who told you to buck President Trump’s plan and certify the votes?”

“James Madison,” Pence replied, and the crowd applauded.

“I said earlier, Psalm 15 says, ‘he who keeps his oath even when it hurts,’” Pence explained. “You know, on that day in January, I wrote a letter to the Congress that I’d recommend anybody here read. I expressed my concern about irregularities that took place in the election in a number of states.”

“Now, I understand the disappointment in the election. You might remember I was on the ballot,” Pence said. “But you’ve got to be willing to do your duty. The time may come when some of you are in that position or one like it. And I just have a feeling, based on the shining faces I’m seeing around here, you’re going to be men and women who do your duty in that time as well.”
