CBN Calls Out SBC Seminary Professor for Promoting Gay Son’s Sermon

Others Defend Pastor Merritt

Not everyone took issue with Dr. Merritt’s promotion of his son’s sermon. Former SBCer Beth Moore told James, “I am thankful for you, love you and hold you in high esteem.”

“Merritt was clear regarding differences between he and his son,” SBC pastor Dwight McKissic said. “It’s disingenuous to imply Merritt was endorsing any unbiblical practice. However, to listen to diverse voices when it comes to preaching is wise in my judgment, if for no other reason to be exposed to a broader landscape.”

Faith writer for AL.com, Dana Hall McCain, posted, “I’m so grateful for the example of @drjamesmerritt and his precious wife, Teresa. They are people who love the Lord and his Gospel, and love their family with godly faithfulness and wisdom. Privileged to know them.”

Newly appointed Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary’s director of the Land Center for Cultural Engagement, Daniel Darling, followed up McCain’s post by saying, “Absolutely. I’ve had @drjamesmerritt walk me thru some of the hardest situations with gospel clarity.”
