Newark, NJ City Ordinance Bars Churches From Feeding the Hungry

In response to the Brookings city ordinance, Reverend Bernie Lindley, who serves as pastor of St. Timothy’s Church, told CBN News, “They’re going to have to handcuff me and take me to jail, which they won’t do. So it’s not going to happen. We’re not going to stop feeding. We’re going to do what Christ compels us to do.”

St. Timothy has also begun exploring legal options to challenge the ordinance.

While these types of ordinances may successfully decrease the number of unhoused individuals residing on the streets of their cities, the fact that those individuals remain hungry and underserved is of grave concern to many Christian churches and faith-based food charity organizations.
