On Sunday (Dec 26), 24-year-old Maurice Ladarius Simmons was shot and killed in broad daylight in Prichard. According to Simmons’ mother, Simmons was shot while meeting up with a potential buyer for his cell phone, whom he had connected with via Facebook Marketplace.

Police said that they cannot confirm that Simmons was killed during a robbery and they have no clear motive.
This string of homicides has come as a shock to Prichard residents. One neighbor described Prichard as a “quiet neighborhood” with “good people, old fashioned people.”
