‘The Good Lord Has Blessed Me’—Steelers QB, Likely Retiring, Thanks God After Win

Roethlisberger, who got rebaptized as an adult, also credits his wife, Ashley, for encouraging him spiritually. Ashley and the couple’s three children embraced the QB after Monday night’s win.

These days, says Roethlisberger, he’s been “trying to be a better Christian than I am athlete and football player.” Earlier in his career, the athlete made headlines for questionable off-field behavior. He faced two separate sexual assault accusations in 2010 and admits he’s been addicted to both alcohol and porn.

But now Roethlisberger spreads the word that “it’s cool to be a Christian”—and that sports success and godliness aren’t mutually exclusive. Steelers chaplain Kent Chevalier also preaches that message, encouraging players to deflect all the glory to God.
