Lecrae Opens Up About ‘Painful’ Situation With Musician GAWVI

When Relevant editor Tyler Huckabee asks whether the men wish they’d done anything differently or “pushed harder,” Lecrae responds, “In as much as we knew, we operated in.” People closest to GAWVI “really did try to dig in,” Lecrae adds, “but in terms of all of this, we had no idea.” Lee answers, “I wish I would’ve reached out more,” adding that Christian brothers need “to hold each other accountable.”

One reason “we respond to this with such seriousness,” Lee says, is because they want to protect women and make their concerts “safe” for female fans. “We want this to be a space where women are loved and valued and supported and lifted up.”

Cataphant also spoke to Relevant, explaining she wants accountability for this situation plus a broader teachable moment for Christian men, who she says face a low bar in the church. “I think for a lot of predatory people who don’t belong in church leadership, the praise does it for them,” says Cataphant. “If you’re addicted to praise, go find something else to do. You’re not a leader.”
