Hillsong Church has experienced a considerable amount of transition recently. The morning Douglass announced the Lewises resignation, Hillsong founder Brian Houston announced he would be stepping aside from his role as global senior pastor during 2022. Houston plans to focus on charges brought against him that he concealed allegations that his father, Frank Houston, sexually abused children.
Over the past several years, Hillsong has faced a number of scandals, particularly with pastoral leadership, although there is no indication currently that the Lewises’ departure is connected to any past or current controversy.
