Disney has come under fire from LGBTQ advocates, who criticized the company for initially remaining silent about the bill. Disney CEO Bob Chapek has since apologized, publicly opposed the bill, and stopped political donations to Florida. Chapek also said he has met with DeSantis to express his concern about the “Don’t Say Gay” bill and promised to donate $5 million to LGBTQ organizations.
However, the Human Rights Campaign says it refuses to accept any of that money until Disney takes “meaningful action.” Disney employees are planning walkouts during their breaks this week to protest Chapek’s response.

Marvel has also posted a statement many take to be about the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, saying, “We strongly denounce any and ALL legislation that infringes on the basic human rights of the LGBTQIA+ community.”
