SBC Presidential Candidate Bart Barber Responds to ‘Wild Accusations’; Shares Thoughts on CRT, Vision for Peacemaking

Recently, a screenshot of the first part of Barber’s statement about the convenience of totalitarianism began circulating on Twitter, without the context of its conclusion, making it seem as though Barber was advocating for a totalitarian government structure.

In particular, Barber calls out conservative media personalities Todd Starnes and Michael O’Fallon for intentionally misrepresenting him on Twitter.

“Those tweets have been removed, but not before a lot of people took them as gospel truth,” Barber says.

Barber was also accused of being a “papist” for tweeting out a request for a Catholic hospital chaplain after a Catholic family he met at a local hospital could not find a priest and politely declined to allow a Baptist minister to pray for them.

“Being a Baptist, I of course have profound differences with the theology of the Roman Catholic Church. I am one of the least ecumenical people you know, so much so that you might consider it a fault of mine,” Barber says. “It’s just that I’m also looking for opportunities to share the gospel by opening doors through kindness.”
