On Saturday (April 23), one person tweeted side-by-side images of Pratt and fellow actor Patrick Wilson, saying, “Marvel. Hear me out. Just…replace him.”
“Guardians of the Galaxy” director James Gunn weighed in on the call for Pratt to be recast, coming to Pratt’s defense.
“For what? Because of your made-up, utterly-false beliefs about him? For something that someone else told you about him that’s not true? Chris Pratt would never be replaced as Star-Lord but, if he ever was, we would all be going with him,” Gunn tweeted.

In response to the accusation that Pratt is a part of a church that is “homophobic,” Gunn said, “He isn’t. I know the church he currently goes to. Do you? (The answer is you don’t, but you heard from someone who heard from someone who heard from someone where he goes to church, so decided, ‘yeah, okay, I’ll believe this terrible thing I heard online about this celebrity!’)”
Others posted screenshots listing the Twitter accounts Pratt follows, which include conservative voices such as Ben Shapiro and Texas Congressman Dan Crenshaw. Pratt is also married to Katherine Schwarzenegger, daughter of action movie star and Republican politician Arnold Schwarzenegger.
While Pratt has often been maligned on social media for being a conservative, his fellow stars have spoken highly of him and have been quick to his defense in the past, including Robert Downey Jr. In 2020, after Pratt was dubbed “the worst Chris” in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Downey posted on Instagram, lauding Pratt’s personal character.

“What a world…The ‘sinless’ are casting stones at my brother, Chris Pratt…A real Christian who lives by principle, has never demonstrated anything but positivity and gratitude,” Downey said.
