A Pastor’s Dream Helps Makes the Bible Easier for Dyslexics To Read

“Several people who couldn’t engage with the Bible are now able to read their Bible daily using the dyslexic font, which is life-changing in itself,” said McLeish. “My hope and desire is for churches all over the world to use this font during their services to present Scripture, allowing it to be accessible for everyone.”

Chris Vaughn, Principal Software Engineer for YouVersion, describes how the font and the app’s other features have improved his experience of reading the Bible:

Living with a reading disability has always affected my life. For years, when it came to reading the Bible, I was limited to a surface-level understanding because of the mental energy and time it took to get through a passage. Using the OpenDyslexic font in the Bible app, as well as having the ability to listen to the audio narration that follows along with the text, has changed my Bible reading experience. The focus of my time in the Bible can be about learning what God’s Word has to say to me rather than getting through the reading. Also, having the OpenDyslexic font in the Bible app helps me feel known. My reading disability has been a source of shame and embarrassment for years; having the Bible app care about me and my needs helps me feel more normal.

If you would like to select the OpenDyslexic font in the YouVersion Bible app, go to a passage in the Bible and click on the “font” icon.

Then select OpenDyslexic from the drop down menu.
