SBC Abuse Survivors Issue Joint Statement Urging 4 Reforms That ‘Need Immediate Action’

In the statement’s final section, “Subsequent Work,” the survivors say, “In addition (but not as a substitute for immediate actions), we support the creation of an independent Abuse Reform Implementation Task Force” to devise a strategic plan and timeline for implementation of other Guidepost and SATF recommendations within the next three years.”

A list of “challenges and formal recommendations” from the Sexual Abuse Task Force is lengthier than the survivors’ statement and also includes the creation of an Abuse Reform Implementation Task Force, financial compensation for survivors, and the creation of a “Ministry Check” website. The report from Guidepost Solutions contains recommended action steps as well.

When asked on Twitter if and how the survivors’ recommendations differ from those of the SATF, Woodson replied, “These are reforms we feel need immediate action, as to support ALL SBC clergy abuse survivors, by providing a permanent, independent, safe place to report abuse and that will conduct inquiries, a database and restitution.”
