Gabriel Chavez, Hensley’s cousin, wrote on Facebook that while Hensley was being held down by seven officers, he was screaming, “Mom, they’re killing me. I can’t breathe.” According to Chavez, Hensley’s mother heard Hensley’s cry for help, as she was on speakerphone with someone close to the scene.

“Christopher is a husband, father of 2, son, brother to John, and cousin to many,” Chavez wrote. “He served those around him with no question, he served at his church, and loved his family so dearly. His mom is posting picture after picture today showing how deeply he loved his faith community and family. I know his love, smile, joy, and faith firsthand. And I will love and cherish my memories.”

Chavez expressed that his family is building a legal case against the officers and shared a GoFundMe account to help cover funeral expenses. Hensley leaves behind a 3-week-old baby and a 4-year-old.

“He was a good man who just welcomed his second daughter into this world,” Chavez’s wife shared on Hensley’s GoFundMe account. “He wanted so desperately to see them through life. He leaves behind a 4 year old, a 3 week old, wife and a ministry that he loved dearly. This GoFundMe is for his funeral expenses as well as for his family.”
