Rooftop Shooter Kills 7 and Injures 30 Others During Chicago-Area Independence Day Parade

“There are no words for the kind of monster who lies in wait and fires into a crowd of families with children celebrating a holiday with their community,” Pritzker continued. “There are no words for the kind of evil that robs our neighbors of their hopes, their dreams, their futures. There are no words I can offer to lift. the pain of those they leave behind. Please know that our state grieves with you, that MK and I grieve with you. But grief will not bring the victims back, and prayers alone will not put a stop to the terror of rampant gun violence in our country. I will stand firm with Illinoisans and Americans: we must—and we will—end this plague of gun violence.”

Dare 2 Share’s founder, Greg Stier, posted this message on Twitter, “Join me in prayer over yet another horrific shooting. It is a solemn reminder of how spiritually desperate our nation is right now. What should be a day of celebration has been turned into a day of mourning for so many people.”

James Merritt, former President of the Southern Baptist Convention and current pastor of of Cross Pointe Church in Duluth, Georgia, also asked people to join him in prayer for those involved in the tragic shooting. “Please join me in prayer for the families of those killed in the tragic shooting in Chicago and the healing for all of those who are wounded and that the killer would be found and justice would be done. Pray also for an opening for the gospel to be proclaimed.”
