Actor Chris Pratt has received plenty of condemnation as a result of his religious beliefs. Earlier this year, fans called for him to be recast in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise over claims that Pratt is homophobic. The criticism stemmed, not from any comments the actor made, but from claims actor Elliot Page made that Pratt’s church, which many understood to be Hillsong, is “infamously anti-LGBTQ.”

Pratt responded at the time, “Nothing could be further from the truth. I go to a church that opens their doors to absolutely everyone.” In a recent interview, Pratt addressed the criticism, saying, “I’m not a religious person,” and that he never expected to be an icon of Christianity. He also clarified, “I never went to Hillsong. I’ve never actually been to Hillsong. I don’t know anyone from that church.”

In the past, Pratt has encouraged his fans to listen to Christian music and read the Bible. He started to become known as an outspoken Christian in Hollywood after his 2018 speech at the MTV Movie & TV Awards when he told the audience, “God is real. God loves you. God wants the best for you. Believe that. I do.”
