Former Trump Administration senior official and current contributor for Liberty University’s Standing for Freedom Center William Wolfe offered his political advice to the president.
“If I was Donald Trump, I’d seize on the FBI raid, schedule a presser, and announce that I am running for President in 2024 tomorrow,” Wolfe said. “He should announce he’s running on the platform of dismantling the FBI and destroying the Deep State that is being weaponized against Americans.”
“This is hilariously bad. The FBI director was appointed by Trump,” said Christian writer and podcaster Marty Duren in response. “That means Trump helped sustain the Deep State, right?”
“Only thing I can say about the FBI Mar-a-Largo raid is,” tweeted Christian writer and speaker Ameen Hudson, “Here we go.”
Hudson later clarified his statement, adding, “And I don’t mean ‘here we go’ like ‘yes! Let’s do this!’ I mean here we go like it’s going to probably get crazy and I can’t imagine what Trump and his supporters will do with this either way it goes.”
Sexual abuse survivor advocate Jacob Denhollander, while not a Trump supporter, expressed caution regarding the FBI’s credibility and effectiveness, saying, “The FBI is currently being sued for failing to act on reports that Larry Nassar was sexually abusing Olympic team gymnasts.”
“All I’m saying is don’t put all your hope in the ethics and competency of the FBI without knowing any details,” Denhollander continued. “This isn’t a ‘Maybe Trump is actually a good guy and is being harassed by law enforcement’ tweet, it’s a ‘Gee, I hope the FBI doesn’t screw this up’ tweet.”
Legal expert and political commentator David French further cautioned Christians to withhold judgment until more details are available, saying, “Given that we still haven’t seen the warrant, much less the warrant application, the immediate frenzied anger at the FBI is completely unjustified. There is no constitutional, statutory, or moral foundation for the belief a former president is above the law. So, wait.”
“If the DOJ’s actions turn out to be unjustified, then responsible officials should be held accountable. But it’s wrong to *presume* an abuse of power. And talk of ‘civil war’ is horrific, frivolous Twitter LARPing, right until a deranged man picks up a rifle. Take a breath,” French said.
Over the weekend, Trump appeared at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Dallas, Texas, where an unofficial straw poll indicated that he is overwhelmingly favored to win the Republican nomination for the 2024 presidential election, should he choose, and be allowed, to run.
