Abuse Survivor ‘Crying Tears of Thankfulness’ After Department of Justice Initiates Investigation Into SBC Entities

“Remember when they called you crazy? Remember when they said ‘it’s not that bad’? Remember when they tried to silence you? Remember when they lied about you and to you? Remember when they didn’t help you? Today, they remember #justice #truth #change #SBC,” Williams wrote in another tweet.

Williams told ChurchLeaders that she’s “been praying for years…for the wicked to be brought to repentance and the just to be vindicated. Christ is purifying His church and guarding His sheep.”

On May 20, Williams filed a lawsuit against several SBC entities and her father (a former seminary student of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, former Lifeway employee, and former pastor.)

Christa Brown, another abuse survivor advocate tweeted, “Fingers crossed. I publicly called for a federal investigation of the SBC over a year ago to investigate sexual abuse & institutional enablement. It’s time #SBCTruthandJustice.”

Brown linked to an article she wrote for Religion News Service in which she said, “The resources of the federal government should be brought to bear to comprehensively investigate sexual abuse, indifferent responses and institutional enablement in the Southern Baptist Convention.”
