The Bible, ‘Gender Queer,’ Anne Frank Adaptation Among 41 Books Removed by Texas School District

Patriot Mobile Action Backs Conservative School Board Candidates

Multiple school districts across Texas have dealt with similar controversies over “Gender Queer” and other books, particularly ones focusing on race and sexuality. The controversy transformed the recent school board elections in North Texas, which saw funding typically only seen at the state level.

This was in large part due to the newly formed Christian political action committee, Patriot Mobile Action. Among its core beliefs, the PAC promotes “American exceptionalism,” denounces critical race theory and “Marxist policies,” and states that “to save America we must save our schools.” The PAC is committed to candidates who “stand for Christian conservative values.”

Patriot Mobile Action spent hundreds of thousands of dollars backing 11 candidates in recent school board elections. All 11 of those candidates won; three now sit on the Keller ISD school board.

Dr. Charles Randklev, president of the board of trustees for Keller ISD, said in a Facebook post, “The recent reporting by media that Keller ISD is banning the Bible and Anne Frank is false. The district will be reviewing those books per updated policy using content guidelines pending board approval.”

Randklev said that the Texas Education Agency required the district to adopt new policies to review instructional materials and therefore all previously challenged books must now be reviewed per those policies.
