‘I Got Canceled This Week’—Facebook Ad Campaign for Pastor Ed Young’s ‘Woke or Awake’ Series Denied by Meta

Returning to the analogy of a healthy diet, Young said, “We’re gonna talk about the sweet things in the counsel of God, but also we have to talk about truth.”

Young made headlines with “Woke or Awake” earlier this month, when he kicked off the series with a sermon titled “What does it mean to be ‘Woke?’ | A Biblical Perspective.”

In that message, Young said, “‘Wokeism’ takes terms that we’re familiar with and they redefine them because what is racist to a ‘woker’ would not be racist to those of us who are Christ followers. What is social justice to the ‘woker’ is not social justice to you and me. And here’s where it gets very, very confusing. Like any cult…they take terms that we’re very, very familiar with, they redefine them.”

Young’s series has received both praise and criticism online, with some pointing out that Young has been refuting wokeism as described in a definition he himself created: “an authoritarian worldview that seeks to deconstruct the foundations of our Christian faith by overwhelming, overpowering and overthrowing those who do not adhere to its ideology.”

The series will include at least two more installments, including a sermon wherein Young and his wife Lisa will discuss how parents can navigate woke ideology with their kids.
