VP Harris Applauded for Pro-Abortion Comments During The National Baptist Convention; SBC President Condemns Remarks

A woman will choose, Harris continued, “in consultation with her pastor or her priest, or a doctor and her loved ones. But the government should not be making that decision.”

Harris listed the accomplishments of the Biden Administration and credited NBC attenders’ voices for being able to do so.

Harris concluded her speech by talking about the importance of affordable healthcare, saying, “God calls on us to help heal the sick.”

Harris shared that one of the promises Biden and her made during the campaign was to “nominate the most diverse group of judges in the history of the United States,” and they’ve done so, which has included newly appointed Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.

“So let us, people of faith, continue to defend our democracy, continue to defend our liberty and our freedoms,” the Vice President said. “Let us continue to fight to build a better future. And let us continue to have faith in God, in our country, and in each other, because together we will continue to usher in the dawn.”

SBC President Bart Barber Condemns Harris’ Pro-Abortion Remarks

Shortly after clips of Harris’ speech started circulating on social media, Texas SBC pastor Tom Buck tagged Southern Baptist President Bart Barber and asked, “Who else is for the SBC to never send one of their leaders to this group ever again?”

Buck was referencing a Twitter photo uploaded by SBC First Vice President Victor Chayasirisobhon (Senior Pastor at First Southern Baptist Church of Anaheim in California) with Dr. Jerry Young at the NBC.

Chayasirisobhon thanked SBC pastor Dwight McKissic (Cornerstone Baptist Church in Arlington, TX) for the introducing him to the NBC family. The SBC’s First Vice President attended the convention based on the SBC’s current bylaws, which were posted in the thread by SBC Pastor Keith Myer (Harvest Baptist Church in Salisbury, MD).

The bylaws state, “The Convention shall send a fraternal messenger to the annual sessions of the American Baptist Churches and the National Baptist conventions. The expenses of the fraternal messengers incurred while in attendance upon the conventions herein named shall be included in the items of Convention expenses.”

The bylaws continue, “The fraternal messenger to the American Baptist Churches shall be the president of the Southern Baptist Convention at the time of the meeting of the American Baptist Churches, and he shall also be the fraternal messenger to the other National Baptist conventions named. If the president is unable to attend, he shall be authorized to name another officer as a substitute.”
