Jesus people must live like Jesus did. Jesus, although He showed grace, He said some very difficult things. Jesus told his disciples to “eat my flesh drink my blood or you have no part in me.” He said it so many times that people left him. He didn’t sugarcoat it. He didn’t go up there and be like, “Oh, this is what I mean, communion.” Jesus was drawing the line. The Spirit gives life the flesh profits nothing. If you’re not following Jesus in the Spirit, you’re eventually going to fall off. Jesus people must trust God’s words, over our own understanding and over now more than ever, what the government is trying to trick us into.
CL: In early September, you led worship on the first day of Global Vision Bible Church’s Deliverance Conference, a church pastored by Greg Locke. There are many people who would criticize you for associating with Locke. What you tell those who doubt Locke’s love for the Lord and His people?
Gokey: I think many people may have just seen only one side of Greg Locke and immediately casted judgment. Greg shared with me recently [that] he’s learning how to do this journey too. One thing I love about Greg—because I love that man and I love his passion for God—is that when you go and you meet him in person and you see what his church is doing, they’re doing Kingdom work.
It’s interesting, because I’m noticing some of the Church wants me to choose sides, like either you need to be over here or over there. I love the body of Christ. Sometimes, the body of Christ looks a lot different. Some are gonna look like this and some are gonna look like that. If they’re our brothers and sisters in the Lord, then Christ is a foundation and I don’t need to choose. I can love the whole spectrum, especially those who are going after Christ. Greg is going after Christ wholeheartedly. This is why God says don’t judge, because we know a speck when God knows more. We’re unqualified to judge, because what does the judge do? A judge has all the information, which is why it makes them capable of saying the right thing and making the right decision. So the older I get, the more I realize how much less I know.
CL: What are you hoping God does throughout this tour?
Gokey: First, it starts with us backstage and on the buses. As I’ve been meeting with the whole tour, I’m saying, guys, we’re creating a habitation for the Lord. Meaning that how our speech and conduct, how the time we spend with each other, right here, is where it really happens, our home lives and backstage. I’m on stage for 90 minutes a day. That’s only a reflection of how my personal life is going. So I’ve been saying, “Let’s make space for God.” Let’s encourage each other. Let’s watch how we speak. Let’s make space and time for the Lord. When we’re in our buses. We’re in our bunks alone, let’s let the Lord be Lord and choose what we see and make sure we are careful what we let in our eye gates in our ear gates.
I read this today, Jesus said, only those who do the will of my Father will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. And that’s sober, because these people who said, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy, did we not not cast out demons, and do many miracles in your name. And Jesus said, “I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.” So even though they were doing in the name of Jesus, they were also doing lawlessness or wickedness, and that should not be so. So the idea this tour is what we do back here, what we do in our home lives, when we bring things in order, it’s going to allow the Spirit to move. So we are creating space for that which includes partaking in communion weekly on this tour. We’re gonna get tired on this tour, but in our weakness, He is made strong. We just want to create a habitation where the Lord dwells, where the Lord is welcome, and where the Lord is honored.
CL: How can the church be praying for the Gokey family?
Gokey: Pray for unity in my family. I just want to love my kids well. I want my family to know God. Times are coming where my kids need to be taught, because they’re going to be put in tough situations. The enemy is playing his hand. Government leaders are overplaying their hand. It’s time for the church rise up.
I pray more than ever before and see the need for my boys to be strong men. Men who are not emotionally weak but meek. Men who will only use their strength against the enemy. Right now, there’s an attack against men to weaken them. If you know any Christian man, the last thing we ever want to do is hurt, because we want to see people come to Jesus. It’s a very hard time, because we live in a time where there’s a lot of twisting and perverting of what strength is, and it’s sickening. God wants His men back and the devil was trying to weaken them.
