‘I Want To Serve God Well’—SBC President Bart Barber Discusses Politics, Sexual Abuse, Christian Nationalism With Anderson Cooper on 60 Minutes

Nevertheless, not everyone was impressed by Barber’s statements regarding the sexual abuse crisis in the SBC and how to move forward.

Sexual abuse survivor advocate Christa Brown said, “Here’s the thing: Even if @bartbarber is 100% sincere, he’s working within a deeply toxic, survivor unfriendly system that hasn’t yet manifested any meaningful transformation or made amends with those it harmed. That’s what is real.”

“This isn’t repentance. This isn’t remorse. This isn’t reform. This isn’t restitution,” Brown had previously tweeted alongside a video promoting the 60 Minutes segment. “Near 5 months after Guidepost report & @SBCExecComm doesn’t even make amends for its OWN documented harms. This isn’t what ‘number 1 priority’ looks like.”

Barber tweeted about his experience with Anderson Cooper and CBS prior to the segment’s airing, saying that his respect for the 60 Minutes team was “through the roof, and it is a beautiful thing to see journalism done well. We need it.”
