Because Petrini also had access to screenshots regarding responses from Wall and Fairview, she says she “felt like I had enough context to tweet it out knowing that it wasn’t made up or some big confusion.” She admits feeling disappointed that it took a viral tweet for the church to act. “And even the church’s statement about how ‘some were offended’ by the sticker feels very tone deaf,” Petrini adds. “I can’t imagine the reaction of parents if a teacher had passed out stickers that said ‘I ❤️ hot teachers.’”
ChurchLeaders has reached out to Fairview Baptist Church and will update this article in the event of a response. On its Facebook page, Fairview writes that the decision to place Wall on leave “was made by our deacon officers and personnel team in keeping with our by-laws and personnel procedures.” It adds, “We will keep you updated as the process moves forward.”
