Can a Christian Not Have a Spiritual Gift? John Piper Weighs In

Regarding the question about finding one’s purpose, Piper says the answer—“to serve one another”—also appears in 1 Peter 4:10. By focusing less on ourselves and more on “the grace of God to use us,” we will love and serve others, and God will bless that.

Piper encourages Christians to “set our hearts to love people by God’s grace, to show God’s grace to people, to channel God’s grace through ourselves, through our God-given personalities in whatever way feels natural to us.”

He concludes, “Don’t make it your aim to discover your gift,” admitting that those words sound counterintuitive. “Rather, make it your aim to love people for Christ’s sake. And then do it in as many ways that feel natural to your personality as you can.” That, says Piper, is where true purpose lies.
