Franklin Graham Describes ‘Respect for Marriage Act’ as a ‘Smokescreen’, Calls Out Republican Senators Who Voted for Bill

“The ‘Respect for Marriage Act‘ is just a smokescreen,” Graham posted on Twitter. “It brings protections to same-sex marriage but makes the majority of Americans—individuals, institutions, churches, and organizations—who believe in marriage between a man and a woman vulnerable to legal attack.”

Graham said that “it is very disappointing that 12 Republican senators sided with ultra-liberal @SenSchumer and voted for the Respect for Marriage Act which strikes a blow against millions of Americans who believe in and support traditional marriage.”

Graham then proceeded to list the 12 Republican senators who voted for what he described as the “deceptively-named Respect for Marriage Act: Roy Blunt—MO; Richard Burr—NC; Shelley Capito—WV; Susan Collins—ME; Cynthia Lummis—WY; Rob Portman—OH; Mitt Romney—UT; Dan Sullivan—AK; Thom Tillis—NC; Joni Ernst—IA; Lisa Murkowski—AK; Todd Young—IN.”
