Daniel Darling, director of the Land Center for Cultural Engagement at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, observed, “One reason that I disagree with the abolitionist approach to pro life activism that opposes an incremental approach to pro life laws is that it would require a legislator to vote against something like the Born Alive protection that passed the House yesterday.”
The “abolitionist approach” Darling refers to favors criminalizing mothers and rejects an incremental approach to eliminating abortion. Darling continued, “All of us share the goal of ending abortion, but an incrementalist approach allows us to save as many babies as possible right now. The abolitionist approach would have me voting with the pro choice movement against prolife legislation to preserve the status quo.”
The Born Alive Act now goes to the Senate, which is unlikely to pass the bill because Senate Republicans are in the minority.
