The fellowship will host the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Service, “Keeping the Dream Alive,” Jan. 16 at 10 a.m. at New Song Bible Fellowship Church in Lanham, Md., said Nathaniel Thomas, fellowship president and senior pastor of Forestville New Redeemer Baptist Church in District Heights, Md.

“We are talking about bringing a sense of unity, closer unity, with our various groups within the Southern Baptist ranks,” Thomas said, “in knowing that we’re serving the one God, the one Christ.

“Our focus will be on the work that has been done in the area of evangelism. What we want to recognize are the contributions that have been made out of the African American community historically,” he said, “the work of missions, evangelizing worldwide, winning souls. That’s the main issue here, and that we’ve played a major part in that.”

Bucas Sterling III, senior pastor of Kettering Baptist Church in Upper Marlboro, Md., and vice president of the National African American Fellowship of the Southern Baptist Convention, will be the keynote speaker at the event with broad pastoral participation. Bernard T. Fuller is host pastor.
