“There is no debate: the comments by our member were awful and will not be tolerated,” Keahbone concluded. “Pray for our leadership as they act swiftly and within the bounds of Scripture to handle this the right way.”
Later on Thursday (Feb. 2), Fredrick posted a string of tweets responding more fully to the controversy.
“In light of the recent Twitter explosion surrounding my inappropriate Tweet and response, let me say this as a believer saved by God’s grace…Yes, I have shared everything with my church,” Fredrick wrote. “Yes, I have spoken to trusted advisors and we have prayed…Yes, I admit that my initial Tweet was demeaning and inappropriate for one bearing the name of Christ.”
Fredrick continued, “And, yes, I have sought the Lord, praying for forgiveness and repentance…Further, my response too was ungodly, and I ask forgiveness in accordance with biblical practice.”
“Finally, and this is not retribution, but I am not the man portrayed in the tweet stream. WE have the distinct honor and privilege of celebrating our 50th Valentines Day together as a couple, and as husband and wife (45 years),” Fredrick concluded. “My bride is God’s best gift beyond Christ!”
