But Brandon McCarroll, pastor of Highland Baptist Church of Denton in Denton, Texas, sees a scriptural basis for spending an extravagant amount of money in the name of Jesus. “I admittedly know very little about He Gets Us or whose [sic] behind it,” he said, “but these sorts of objections sound a lot like the disciples complaining about the woman who anointed Jesus with expensive perfume.”

Steve Bezner, senior pastor of Houston Northwest Church in Houston, said that he did not understand the criticism of the He Gets Us ads. “I get the concerns, but I think these are overall good things. The Kingdom starts with the proclamation and worship of a King. It may not be your cup of tea, but Haterade isn’t required.”

Daniel Yang, director of the Church Multiplication Institute at the Wheaton College Billy Graham Center, tweeted, “Jesus gets those who don’t get He Gets Us. All of us.”
