Francis Chan, Rick Warren Do Not Attend National Collegiate Day of Prayer at Asbury To Keep It Free of Celebrities

Concluding his statement in the final service of the 15-day God ordained worship, Brown charged those in attendance and watching online that a Christian’s “trajectory is a holy life, virtuous and pure, expressed in neighbor-serving, God-honoring work.”

He then prayed, “Oh, Lord, make us different. Give us different eyes. Help us to see like Jesus, give us a different heart. Help us to love and to live like Christ for the fullest realization of our humanity and the fullest edification of the communities that we inhabit in the common good, and ultimately, for God’s glory, the glorification of God. Amen.”

It has been estimated that over 100,000 people have visited Asbury University in the last 15 days. Fox News, CNN, The New York Times, The Atlantic, and more covered the unfolding events, many on location in the small town of 6,000 people in Wilmore, Kentucky.

In a statement posted on Asbury University’s website, Brown expressed that they aren’t stopping what some have labeled a “revival.”

“I have been asked if Asbury is stopping this outpouring of God’s Spirit and the stirring of human hearts,” Brown said. “I have responded by pointing out that we cannot stop something we did not start.”

“Regardless of how we choose to describe what we have seen and experienced over the last several weeks (revival, renewal, awakening, outpouring)—this movement is not finished,” Brown said. “Other colleges and churches are experiencing similar services. Rather, we are encouraging the continued movement of God through other people, places, and ministries.”

Malachi O’Brien, one of the members serving on the National Collegiate Day of Prayer team, shared with ChurchLeaders, “You know God has touched a region and is touching the nation when you check in at the airport and the agent asks you if you were at the revival.”
