Tennessee Library Director Fired for ‘Negative Pushback’ During Kirk Cameron Book Reading

Brave Books Responds

A Brave Books spokesperson told ChurchLeaders that after the head library official found out who Cameron was, he sent an email stating, “I am concerned that you are bringing a movement to my library and all of the other things that come along with that. That’s not going to happen on Saturday (today).”

The official then threatened to cancel the event, stating that the library would not be able to handle the number of people Cameron’s events were drawing.

“When the library’s board of directors and the community heard this, they were against this decision, and the library staff backed down,” Brave Books said.

Not only did the library’s head official and staff treat Cameron, Robertson, Gaines, and Brave Books poorly according to Brave Books and Robertson, they forced parents and kids to stand outside in the cold rain.

“They were rude and obnoxious to Kirk Cameron, Missy Robertson, and Riley Gaines. We never intended to get anyone fired, but when you mistreat people, there is a consequence,” Brave Books stated.

Cameron said, “We aren’t looking for libraries to ‘contain the crowd.’ That’s been America’s problem. Good parents and the family of faith have been confined for too long in private homes and churches rather than bringing their much-needed virtue and values into the public square. We’re gathering at our libraries not to be contained but to openly support and encourage one another, fanning the flames of faith, family, and freedom. Once that sacred fire begins to spread in the hearts and homes of Americans, it’s uncontainable. So, Hendersonville, here we come!”

Brave Books chief of staff Zac Bell told ChurchLeaders that he just finished a book reading with Kirk Cameron in Fayetteville, Arkansas, at the Fayetteville Public Library.

“We had a massive crowd, and the library was wonderful to work with,” Bell said. “I couldn’t praise the head official and his staff at the Fayetteville public library enough. I wish all library staff were like that. I can promise you that all the staff at the Fayetteville Public Library will be keeping their jobs. They may be getting raises!”
