Trump lawyers Susan Necheles and Joseph Tacopina released a statement saying that Trump “did not commit any crime. We will vigorously fight this political prosecution in court.”
Graham’s remarks reiterated much of Trump’s own beliefs.
“It’s a shameful day for America as former President @realDonaldTrump was indicted by a Manhattan grand jury,” Graham posted on Friday (March 31). “The Democrats have weaponized the legal system for their political gain while ignoring the current Administration’s faults and deficiencies.”

“There’s only One who can save this country, and that is God and God alone. Why should He even hear our prayers when we have turned our back on Him? But I’m going to keep praying that God will intervene and save this nation so we will continue to be that beacon of hope for this very dark world,” Graham continued.
Graham, who was an outspoken supporter of Trump during his 2016 and 2020 presidential runs, has declined to endorse Trump in his 2024 bid.
“I’m staying out of the Republican primary and the debate and that sort of thing,” Graham said during a December 2022 press conference at the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, North Carolina. “I’m focusing on what God has called me to do, and that’s to preach the gospel.”
In a tweet last week (March 20), Graham urged Christians to pray for Trump in light of a potential indictment, saying, “We need to pray for our country and where it is headed. The left in Washington and across the country just can’t get their fill of attacking Donald Trump. They are so paranoid of him. The onslaught against him is continual.”
“There’s no question, the media and the left manipulated the last election, and they are scared to death of Donald Trump’s possible return,” Graham continued. “So, night after night, the media runs negative stories about former President Trump. Now they’re talking about the possibility of arresting him in the hopes that this would prevent him from running for president again—this would be a huge mistake. The charges against him are definitely politically motivated.”
Graham called on “Christians across this country to pray specifically for former President @realDonaldTrump, that God’s hand would be upon him, protect him, and direct him in every step he takes—and that God’s will be done. We need to work together to strengthen this nation—not divide and destroy it.”
