Some politicians are promising stricter regulations on religious groups while maintaining freedom to worship. William Samoei Ruto, Kenya’s president, decried what he called pastoral practices “akin to terrorism.”
Kenya’s Interior Minister Kindiki Kithure said, “While the state remains respectful of religious freedom, the horrendous blight on the conscience must lead not only to the most severe punishment, but tighter regulation of every church, mosque, temple, or synagogue going forward.”
