New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell criticized Daigle and Feucht for the November 2020 worship event, saying, “The event was unpermitted, and in violation of critical health guidelines my administration has put in place to save lives in our City. It endangered lives.”
Daigle later said she had never been confirmed to perform in “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.” “I’m disappointed that my spontaneous participation has become part of the political discourse and I’m saddened by the divisive agendas of these times,” said the singer.
While Daigle is concerned about the impact that a misstep could have on her career, she also told NYT that she is not going to live to please other people. “For a long time, I lived my life confined, to make sure people think highly of me,” she said, “and it made me miserable.”
Nevertheless, Daigle has expressed that people’s support and encouragement means a great deal to her. She began her Twitter video by saying, “Ok, ya’ll, I just wanted to reach out and say thank you for something particular. The other day I was in New York City and my friend Hannah was like, ‘Hey, why don’t we look at your videos on YouTube and see how they’re doing?’”
As Daigle read through the comments on her videos, she “was so touched by people’s vulnerability and, just, the kindness that all of you shared. Sometimes those places can be toxic and whatever, but ya’ll are so generous and so kind. And I want you to know that those comments mean a lot to me. They definitely encourage me.”
